Joseph Yesselman, assistant professor in the Deparment of Chemistry, received a FIRST award, which helps early-career, tenure-track faculty initiate research programs and compete more effectively for National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) grants.

The competitive grant program comes from Nebraska's Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR), funded by the NSF. EPSCoR's mission is to increase research, education and training capacity and competitiveness.

Yesselman heads a research group that strives to utilize RNA's unique structural properties to design new nanomachines for therapeutic, engineering, and basic science applications.
