James Checco, associate professor in the Department of Chemistry, was featured on CSBio's "Leading Peptide Researchers" on the company's website.
CSBio is a peptide and instrumentation manufacturing company founded in 1993, providing automated peptide synthesizers to academic institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and peptide contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMO), and others.
Checco leads a lab where work focuses on identifying receptors targeted by endogenous peptides using novel chemical probes and labeling strategies. He is a project leader in the Nebraska Center for Integrated Biomolecular Communication (NCIBC) and helps to mentor early career peptide researchers as co-chair of the Student Activities Committee for the American Peptide Society.
He has been recognized with several awards, including the NIH Maximizing Investigators' Research Award (MIRA).
The interview covers Checco’s path as a researcher, the novel chemical strategies his lab uses to uncover hidden cell-signaling pathways, and his outlook on the most exciting frontiers in peptide discovery.
