Fulbright U.S. Student Program - Study/Research Awards

Award: 2 month - 1 year international study (varies by country)

Description: Applicants for study/research awards design their own projects and will typically work with advisers at foreign universities or other institutes of higher education.

Department of Defense – Multiple Agencies
National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship Program
Award: For a period of up to three years (based on continued funding), this felllowship covers full tuition and mandatory fees. Fellows also receive a monthly stipend ($3,200), and up to $1,200 a year in medical insurance.

Description: This opportunity will support a student that proposes a project in response to a currently active BAA from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), the Army Research Office (ARO), or the Office of Naval Research (ONR).

Award: Award intended to cover living costs ($3,000/mo) and travel expenses ($2,000/award) for work conducted at a DOE facility.

NETL Methane Hydrates Fellowship Program
Award: A two or three year appointment, including $30,000/year stipend, $15,000 supplies budget, $6,000 travel budget for Master's students. Slightly higher for Ph.D. students.

Description:The purpose of the NCI Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Fellow Transition Award (F99/K00) is to encourage and retain outstanding graduate students recognized by their institutions for their high potential and strong interest in pursuing careers as independent cancer researchers. The award will facilitate the transition of talented graduate students into successful cancer research postdoctoral appointments, and provide opportunities for career development activities relevant to their long-term career goals of becoming independent cancer researchers.

Description: Applications for dissertation research grants must be responsive to AHRQ’s mission, which is to produce evidence to make health care safer, higher quality, more accessible, equitable, and affordable, and to work with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and other partners to make sure that the evidence is understood and used.

Early Independence Award (DP5)

Description: The NIH Director's Early Independence Award supports exceptional investigators who wish to pursue independent research essentially directly after completion of their terminal doctoral/research degree or end of post-graduate clinical training, thereby forgoing the traditional post-doctoral training period and accelerating their entry into an independent research career.


National Science Foundation
Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP)
Award: Each Fellowship consists of three years of support during a five-year fellowship period. Currently, NSF provides a stipend of $34,000 to the Fellow and a cost-of-education allowance of $12,000 to the graduate degree-granting institution for each Fellow who uses the fellowship support in a fellowship year.

Award: one to two years of graduate study support. (stipend + tuition)

Eligibility: U.S. Citizen with both parents born outside the U.S., must not have started year 3 of graduate study
Description: This fellowship is meant for immigrants or the children of immigrants pursuing graduate school in the United States. The competition is merit-based. Selection criteria emphasize creativity, originality, initiative, and sustained accomplishment. The program values a commitment to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Faculty for the Future
Award: 1 year of support

Description: This foundation supports women from developing countries to study physical sciences, are engaged in outreach activities, and plan to return to their home country after their study


United States Office of Personnel Management
Presidential Management Fellows Program
Award: PMF Program participants are paid full salary and benefits at the GS-9, GS-11, or GS-12 (or equivalent) grade level depending on the position into which hired and the hiring agency. This is a two-year appointment.

Eligibility: Applicant must be expected to complete their advanced degree during the current academic year, or have obtained their advanced degree no more than two years prior to the opening date of the announcement.
Description: The participant will work for a single Federal agency, with rotational opportunities. The program is designed to develop potential government leaders. You will receive formal training, be given regular work assignments and at least one 4-6 month development assignment.


The Winston Churchill Foundation of the United States
