Hewlet-Packard UV-VIS Spectrophotometer:
Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy

This UV-VIS spectrophotometer is a single-beam instrument. This means that you must take a spectrum of the blank (solvent) and the computer automatically subtracts the background from the sample spectrum. This UV uses a diode-array detector instead of a photomultiplier tube. The diode-array allows the whole spectrum to be obtained at once, instead of reading an absorbance before scanning to the next wavelength. This allows for very fast spectrum acquisitions. The wavelength range of this instrument ins from 180-800 nm. The instrument can also be used for fixed-wavelength analysis.

Also available upon request is a variable-temperature cell holder, built in-house by an undergraduate student for her P-Chem research project. It requires a circulating water bath and minimal setup, so please make arrangements if your experiment needs that cell holder.
