Kris Hiebner

My research project focuses on the development of composite biomaterials which could potentially be used for hard tissue replacement.  Our group has shown that hydroxyapatite (HA) with initiate the polymerization of L-lactide in a single step in the absence of catalyst or solvent.  I am currently investigating other materials that can initiate this polymerization and alternative methods to carry out the reaction.  Along with this, I am exploring how the pretreatment and reaction conditions affect the properties of the composite.
