Student Stories Shin Moteki
“I am so glad that I came to UNL. My advisor here is much more interested in research than anywhere else I’ve seen. Here you can really enjoy your research!”
Shin Moteki is a PhD student in organic chemistry, studying with Dr. James Takacs. It was Dr. Takacs that brought Shin to UNL.
“Everything about Dr. Takacs was very impressive to me. Through our years of working together, we’ve had a great time. He placed me into a brand new project with great potentials in the field of catalysis. I’ve been working with the development of self-assembled supramolecular catalysis. We always go after the highest level of research and publish in the top journals in chemistry.”
Shin loves the strong emphasis on research at UNL. His research requires a combination of synthesis and analysis skills.
“All the research here is very advanced. It’s a great feeling to go to national meetings and see that the research I am working on at UNL is just as good or better than the research going on in other places. After all, the best training comes from the highest quality research project“
Shin’s work at UNL has paved the way for a variety of options upon graduation:
“When I first started graduate school, one of the concerns I had was what can do after obtaining my degree. Now I’m graduating, and with all of the training I have received from Prof. Takacs I’m able to choose from several options where I want to go and what I want to do, rather than desperately searching positions.” Shin just completed his Ph.D. and is heading back to Japan to continue his academic career in one of the premiere universities there.
“Obtaining a Ph.D. degree is just the starting point of a long career. Prof. Takacs, as well as other faculty in the organic division of this department, clearly assisted me to have a great start.”
